Report: Yankees Closing in on Deal With Ellsbury
According to Jon Heyman, the New York Yankees may be close to signing a deal with top free agent outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury. The deal is reportedly worth $153 million over 7 years, according to Mark Feinsand of the New York Daily News, good for an AAV of $21 million. Ellsbury, one of the top outfielders in the game, has posted seasons of 5.8, 1.4, and 9.1 (!) fWAR in the past three years, with his 2012 being injury-marred. Ellsbury was ranked by many as the top free agent available.
Just yesterday, it was reported that negotiations with Ellsbury were gaining traction. It will be interesting to see the reaction to this deal by Red Sox fans.
